Grahams Strathallan Pedigree Jersey Herd, which was founded in 1990 with the purchase of 20 pedigree jersey cows from Her Majesty The Queen's world renowned Windsor Herd, is now at 350 milking cows, among the largest Jersey Herds in the U.K.

Over the intervening years the herd has been strengthened  by the judicious buying, not only of cows and heifers from top U.K. herds, but by the importation of cattle from both Denmark and Canada including the bull Enniskillen Tip-Top whose Mother was three times grand champion Jersey cow in Canada.

As a result the Graham's Jersey Herd has an excellent record with cows milking to litres at 6% fat and 4% protein with calcium at 25% higher than that of ordinary milk. The Jerseys were introduced to Boquhan instead of the more traditional black and white cows with  the idea of supplying niche markets with "Gold Top" milk and Jersey cream for luxury ice-cream. This has been successful to the extent that the Jersey milk from Boquhan is sold in all the major U.K. supermarket chains. Jersey cream is also supplied to most of the major independent luxury ice-cream makers in Scotland though we have been making "Graham's butter" for a number of years - we are hoping this year to expand the range to include a luxury jersey butter - keeping the fine texture with added bonus of the extra depth of the flavour created with the use of Jersey cream.
